adire printed skirt
Class: Skirt
Medium: Hand-Dyed Cotton with Natural Indigo
Descriptions: Adire is made using a resist-dyeing technique on cotton cloth with natural indigo. Artisans create patterns by tying, stitching, folding, or applying starch or wax to areas of the fabric to resist dye penetration. The cloth is then repeatedly dipped into indigo dye vats, and when the resist is removed, intricate blue-and-white patterns emerge, reflecting both skilled craftsmanship and cultural symbolism.
Lagos Space Programme
Lagos Space Programme is a Lagos-based fashion brand founded by Adeju Thompson that operates at the intersection of fashion, art, and performance. The brand is known for its highly conceptual practice, using garments as tools for storytelling, ritual, and social critique rather than purely functional clothing. Drawing inspiration from African cosmology, spirituality, youth identity, and post-colonial narratives, its designs often feature layered silhouettes, symbolic texts, distressed finishes, and hand-crafted techniques. Lagos Space Programme challenges Eurocentric fashion systems by centering African philosophies and lived experiences, positioning fashion as a space for reflection, resistance, and cultural imagination.
